The hardware manufacturer revealed that its latest home console shifted 7.1 million units during the three-month period ended December 31, 2022.
This period includes the busy Christmas shopping season and sales were boosted by PS5 becoming more readily available in shops and online retailers. As such, Sony’s latest gaming slab saw an 83% increase in sales year-on-year for that specific period.
PS5 sales now stand at 12.8 million for the first three quarters of Sony’s fiscal year 2022, which is also the best the system has achieved in a FY so far — an increase of 34% over the same period the year prior.
Sony is targeting an annual sell-through of 19 million PS5s, so it’ll need to flog an additional 6.2 million consoles to achieve its goal by the end of March. The console is doing well considering the supply issues that were brought on by the coronavirus pandemic, and Sony has now said that PS5 supply issues have now eased up.
