PS5 Is Attracting People Who Didn’t Already Own A PS4

Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed that 30% of monthly PS5 users during the three-month period ended December 31, 2023 didn’t own a PS4. This means that the format holder is successfully attracting new customers, not simply those who made the jump from last-gen.

There’s obviously a large chunk of PS5 owners that have made the transition from PS4 to the new generation, but it’s interesting to see that Sony is managing to attract those who haven’t been with the company during the last hardware generation, if at all.

In addition, nearly 30% of PS5’s [monthly active users] are users who never used PS4, so, with the spread of PS5, the acquisition of new users is progressing.

The PS5 has now shipped just over 32 million units worldwide since its launch in November 2020, and enjoyed its most successful quarter during the three-month period ended December 31, 2023.
